Hunters’ Watch Brigade: The Game

A demigod’s work is never done…

All monster hunter Samantha Silverton wants is a little R&R. She and her sexy partner, cat shifter Max, have a week off in the city that never sleeps, and she intends to enjoy it. But before she can unpack her suitcase, she’s caught up in the middle of a wicked game—a smartphone app driven scavenger hunt that’s bringing all the big, bad Supernaturals to NYC to play. The bad part? The game was the brainchild of Alex Van Dam—Sam’s first love. What’s worse? She has to play alone.

Maximillion Ra hasn’t quite got a handle on his unique shifter magic yet. He’s in love with Sam, but if he’s ever going to be any good to her, he has to face his family’s curse. But how can he leave Sam now, especially with her old flame in the picture?

Alex Van Dam isn’t interested in who wins his game. He just wants to find the final prize—an ancient Greek relic. Once he has it, he’ll use the artifact’s magic to control all the Supernaturals in Manhattan, starting with the Hunters’ Watch Brigade.

Only Sam stands in his way. And without Max by her side, even the monster hunting daughter of Poseidon has to wonder if she stands a chance…

My Reviews

HWB: The Game is not your typical story—it’s a fascinating literary hybrid of mythological fantasy with strands of reality. Reading the book itself was a pleasant treat to yourself;  A story you will surely love from beginning to end.

Hunter’s Watch Brigade: The Game is the second book of the HWB Series. The book is under the urban fantasy genre, with paranormal romance elements.

So, let’s slowly dissect the information in this novel. The characters somehow were many, they were obviously, presented in the first book, and a few additional characters in the current book. The good thing about this book is they were able to introduce the characters in a way that even if you missed the book one, you won’t get lost. As for the additional, they were slowly presented, with characteristics that you won’t confuse.

The storyline, however, is not just your typical urban fantasy with magic, death. Well, kudos to the author, but this is the only book that tackles about a phone application that will somehow affect everyone, and the protagonist, Sam, was all-out, questioning the internet that we, millennials, or the generation today just disregard for the sake of just being in “trend.” In the books I previously reviewed, I never ever read a book that raises awareness about the bad effects of sharing information on the app or just plainly on the internet. I mean, who does that? Only Ms. Paula is bold enough to raise and write a book about it, and I bet, Kitty Rara and Sam will not always be around to save the day.

The book will surprise you with every turn of the page; somehow Ms. Paula created another book that will catch your attention and you will surely not let go.

So, if you’re going to ask me, will you recommend the book to other readers, hell yes. Was it good? It was perfect. At the rate how things are going, you could stay that this book is a one of a kind indeed. A little bit of mythology, sacrifice, and love—it’s truly a perfect book. Oh, mind you, the rated scenes from the first book was almost toned down that I can definitely recommend this to readers around 15.

DISCLAIMER: I requested for an ARC of this book in NetGalley and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. The description and the cover of the book had caught my attention.

Overall Ratings

Hunters Watch Brigade: The Game received a rating of FiveHeavenly Book Goodness! This book is so good, I personally liked it. I mean, given another chance to write a review for this book is such an honor. The story somehow uplifts my standards to urban fantasy books, and yes, there might be some romance in this books, yet it was toned down compared to the first book. Really, it deserves five ratings right? No? You don’t think so? Okay. Okay. Fine! you don’t have to convince me long, because I think this book deserves it. Let me change the book’s rating..

Hunters Watch Brigade: The Game received a rating of TenHeavenly Book Goodness I bet Poseidon will shower me with lots of luck because of this… Oh, and let me leave you with a wonderful quote from this book.
