About the Book

The Fireproof Girl
(Sophie Shields, #1)
Loretta Lost
Genres: Mystery, New Adult, Romance

Abandoned at birth, Sophie Shields grew up in abusive foster homes, escaping into books and computers for solace. When the constant danger became too much to bear, she ran away, thinking she could survive on her hacking skills alone.

That was until she met Cole Hunter. He became the only person she could trust: her family, her friend, her partner-in-crime. Her everything. After struggling through college and starting their lives together, she believed that nothing could ever tear them apart.

Until it did.

And she’ll do everything in her power to fix what is broken. If it isn’t too late…

When Cole was nine years old, he watched his whole family burn to death in a house fire. Fueled by years of obsession, he started one of the world’s leading architectural firms, with a mission to design homes resistant to fire, earthquakes, floods, and every threat known to man.

Sophie was his secret weapon. She was his purpose. Since they were teenagers, he was determined to build a better life for her, so she could finally be safe, and they could be together.

But disaster has always followed Cole around, ripping away everything he loves. This time, if he isn’t careful…

His enemies might just take him down.

My Reviews

The Fireproof Girl will take you into a roller coaster ride of emotion—An unpredictable and well-written novel that will surely set the literature world on fire.

The Fireproof Girl was written through the eyes of Sophie and few scenes of Cole, both orphaned children— who will, as the story progress, will fight for their life, their rights, and their love. Even when they become successful in their life, a shadow of the past will hunt them… It is set in the present days—and there were few scenes of flashbacks.  It is the first book of the Sophie Shields series written by Loretta Lost.

So how was the story? Well, it was perfect. Imagine a story that chapter by chapter there is a new revelation that will either solve and answer the previous issue, or create conflicts that will make you yearn for more answer. It was surreal, yet the story flows seamlessly making you think that it somehow exists—the words, the dialogue, the setting itself, and the emotion— you can feel it right through your heart. The story also composes of flashbacks that establish the story and will be a huge factor in both the present lives of Cole.

With regards to the characters, the author skillfully writes the character arc of Sophie. The decision and choices of Sophie was not your typical cliché girl decision, but the way she regrets, the way she express her love—you will feel content with her choices but will feel devastated. She will constantly remind you of your first love gone wrong. As for Cole’s POV, he will show you about the prince charming we all fantasize to have—and reading his POV makes you more attached to him and to Sophie.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Why? Well, besides the fact that it was pretty good, I learned something important in this book. You cannot buy nor hack the time that was lost, and in the end, words left unsaid will make you regret.

Ladies and Gentlemen, can we all give the author a round of applause? Loretta Lost created a very fascinating book that will surely capture your heart, mind, and soul.
